shark bite

Some much larger sharks are in the mix with the migrating blacktips.

This week we have been once again met with great conditions and even better weather. At the start of the week I did some heavy surf fishing targeting pompano. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to get any keepers but the whiting bite has been on fire. With fresh dead shrimp being the hot bait early.

As the week moved on, I switched gears to target sharks. The blacktip migration is still running hot — and along with them are some much bigger sharks. Just take a look at the photo above. Several large hammerhead have been spotted close to shore, too. Just remember, if targeting sharks from land, you must have the land based shark permit issued by FWC.

The Spanish mackerel, and large jacks are cruising the beach along with the manta rays and, of course, with the rays come the cobia — and all have been well inside of 100 yards off the beach, well within casting range.

For the Spanish and jacks, 1/2-1oz silver spoons have been the hot lure; and if you can find them or net, them live mullet fished on a fish finder rig.
