Melbourne Beach Pompano

I hit the surf in Melbourne Beach today for calm, clean seas, and a cool morning! I fished 1.5 hrs at the bottom of outgoing tide, and another 1.5 at the start of the incoming. Sand fleas have been very scarce lately and I was not optimistic heading out with only some year-old blanched frozen fleas. I decided to just take 2 poles today. Things started somewhat slow. I caught a mackerel then was “sharked” when retrying, so I went to a much larger (18mm ball) float. I ended with 6 keeper pompano and 1 short. 5 of those 7 fish hit the hook with the big ball.
