We absolutely love the calm seas and clear water but for us bottom fisherman in the party boat game we need something to shake this ocean up. The current has been significant so we are in full on scramble mode fishing shallow small structure that is often overlooked by most. The great thing about this small overlooked structure is that they never get pressured and hold some really neat surprises such as large sea bass, lane snappers and trigger fish. The bad thing is these spots are small and only hold a limited amount of fish.
The mangroves are coming up in the water column but late in the summer these fish have us dialed in more than we have them dialed in. The trick is light fluorocarbon and perfect presentation but even the most skilled anglers are being challenged. Once we do catch a mangrove or two the rest of them wizen up and we have to move on. We always have a blast and a calm day on the water is always a good day. We have some fun trips planned for August and will be reporting here again at the beginning of the month.
