cobia fired up

Not a bad week once again. Bunker was easy to get everyday without issue. Starting from the beach line to offshore, sharks and tarpon continued to provide rod bending action every day. For reliable tarpon hookups, use 60 lb fluoro with 8/0 circle hooks. Some of these fish are BIG, so be prepared to chase a few down. Early morning light has been the best.

Taking those baits offshore has been producing some fire. Hit the lumps or 8A. live bait has been good for a mixed bag of kings, sails and cobia. Stinger rigs have been working just fine. No dusters needed for the live bait, but if you use dead minnows, the dusters will help. Bottom fishing is okay for the smaller bee liners, lanes and triggers. The grouper bite remains shutdown due to cold water. Meanwhile, the current is still ripping to the north so it’s tough bottom fishing, overall.

If you’re after mahi, fish the rips, they are all over. JUST KIDDING. This is probably not the week to target mahi.
