snook on fly

Florida is not usually a state that comes to mind when one thinks of annual seasonal changes. Although we do not have the breathtaking Fall foliage or cooler weather, typically around this time, as our neighbors to the north, we do have changes in our patterns and tactics for inshore fishing.

This time of year, anglers look forward to our yearly Fall Mullet Run on the beaches as well as a multiple of diverse types of bait schools on the inshore flats. Tarpon, Snook, Redfish, and Sea Trout key in on this opportunity as do anglers. For the fly angler, most any type of baitfish pattern fished around schools of bait, docks, or mangrove shorelines can be very productive. I myself on my last few trips have found Snook in every size as well as smaller river Tarpon cruising these areas very actively feeding and willing to take a well-placed fly. A smaller Glass Minnow pattern in white has been the ticket on almost every trip.

Although still extremely hot on the water our early mornings are becoming a little less humid and somewhat bearable for those looking to take advantage of this transitional time of year.
