sunrise beach fishing

You really can’t go wrong with fishing the beach at sunrise!

This week, the surf has shown us clearly: the big whiting and pompano have arrived. Clean, clear water is the key to finding these fish. This past week, the cleaner water has tended to be more prevalent with the outgoing tide.

A big suggestion would be fish multiple rods and different depths — and once you zone in on the area the fish are biting, stick with it. One day this week the pompano were just off the beach less, than 20 feet off the sand. The next day, they were in deeper water near the edge of the bar.

As far as bait goes, bring it all. Shrimp, clams, crabs, sandfleas and synthetics. Each day, the fish wanted something different. If you’re limited to what baits you can get, fresh shrimp or sandfleas are always a pretty good bet.
