surf fishing report

As the summer temperatures heat up so does the surf bite. With croakers, whiting and sharks being the hot bite. But as the currents start to flow more out of the south, it will bring more bait pods along with it. And with them will come the tarpon and keeper mutton snappers.

As far as baits go, fresh dead shrimp and sandfleas along with fishbites are the bait of choice for the croakers and whiting.

Along the rocks of the jetty, some nice snappers and flounder have been a welcome change of pace. Live mullet or fresh cut bait on a fish finder rig worked around the bait pods will help you get into both of these species.

For those looking for a fun fight on light tackle, you can’t go wrong with targeting sharks. A short run of wire or heavy mono to a 8/0-12/0 circle hook with fresh cut bait or live finger whiting on a 8000 or larger reel. Remember, if you plan to target sharks you must take and complete the shark permit course through FWC.
