This year has had brown water for all but a total of 30 days. I’ve only caught one (by mistake) since April. I’ve ceased fishing for them entirely since May. I remember the good ole days before 2016 when 30 inches was considered a big trout and 100 trout tips were the norm. This disturbing year has encouraged me to get heavily involved.

FWC is holding a public workshop regarding spotted seatrout regulations and proposed changes Wednesday, August 7th at 6 P.M. The address is Brevard Co. Government Center, Florida Room, 2725 Judge Fran Jamieson Way.

If you’re a recreational angler concerned about the Indian River Lagoon and its future, please take the time to attend this meeting. Your observations matter more than you realize. This is a rare opportunity to speak to FWC regulators directly about the lack of spotted seatrout in most areas of the Indian River Lagoon. Strength is achieved in numbers, so please bring your friends along.

If you’re unable to attend, you can email Marine@MyFWC.com or call 850-487-0554.

It’s not our fault that spotted seatrout are disappearing, but the remaining spotted seatrout must be protected unless a significant recovery of the Indian River Lagoon occurs.

I’ll resume regular fishing reports next week.
