This evening was the first chance I had to hit the beach since the Winds of ‘19. I stopped at Satellite, and like so many others I’m reading about, I snagged a nice black drum, 16.”
Seems like they are indeed on the move and hungry. Not bad for an hours time and free beach bait (which were super deep buried with the high tide).
I was surprised as other than 1 margate and 1 cat that was all I encountered. Usually I gotta beat the margate off with a stick and do a voodoo curse to keep the kitties away. The water was remarkably clean and clear with a very sparse number of small weed patches that didn’t interfere at all. The sand seems to be still trying to find its place. The wave patterns are weird and my landmark rocks are still buried so I’m working off muscle memory and my subconscious.
We’ll see how tomorrow evening goes….
Went back late this afternoon and caught three keeper sheepshead. Most I’ve ever landed on the beach at one outing. They were hitting fleas. Happy to report my friends the margate have returned. The larger ones are quite sporting on ultra light tackle. Fleas were way more abundant today.
Awesome. I need to get out there this week. I’m staving for a sheepshead sandwich!
