big red

This week has been a crazy busy one! And nothing short of exceptional! Bull reds, large numbers of slot reds, snook and some nice trout, it’s been one for the books! The lagoon has had plenty of activity lately and the majority of the action seems to have been around the large glass minnows pods. Throughout the entire lagoon we are starting to get waves of small finger mullet, but these glass minnow pods seem to be holding the majority of the fish. Spoil islands and shorelines with sandy edges, sharp drop offs, and minnow pods are definitely the “go to!”

Early morning small baits such as the Mirrolure Mirrodines and Mirro Minnow, as well as small doa paddle tails have been getting the best reactions. As the sun rises and the temps climb, look for these fish pushing tighter to the trees. In some cases, they may even be unreachable — this is when “bait and wait” is most effective. Dead shrimp and cut baits of all varieties can’t be beaten. You may even get lucky and land a bull, like Richard, a long time customer of mine did this week. We got completely lucky fishing for smaller redfish when this monster came along!
