Last weekend was a three day weekend for me and Mini tropical-like storm or not, I was going fishing. The name of the game was finding wind protected shore lines with some kind of structure. Winds blowing from the west ranging from 20-30mph, made boating a little bit difficult, especially when launching the boat by yourself. Nevertheless, I was able to find a good area on the west side of the river near Ballard Park. The water was surprisingly clear for how windy it has been. The depth finder was reading 3-4 feet and I could see the bottom, and fish following my lures up to the boat. As you will see in the video a lot of cool dolphin action as well.

I tried paddles tails at first but the local puffer fish population in the area, made short work of a handful of soft plastics brands. I made the switch to a 17mr Mirrodine, and before long the strikes came one after another. The version I was using was the purple and violet bones color. This a C Eyes edition which comes with the black nickel hooks and rattle inside. The trout, ladyfish, and mangrove snapper were all striking the action of this hard bait, and kept the pufferfish at bay.

I also wondered in the Eau Gallie River for a little while and missed the chance at what I believe was schooling jacks and a snook. I actually had a lot of misses on this trip, but it was nice be catching fish, considering the conditions. I’ve been a little slow on the reports, but as summer approaches I will have more time to be out on the water. I’m hoping to fish the May 10th/11th Central Florida Shootout next. Until next time, tight lines!
