redfish - IRL

Tough bite this week! This week has been a big change in the lagoon. Dirtier, higher water conditions made things a bit tough. Although conditions haven’t been ideal we have still been able to get on some good fish. The best advice I can give this week is to fish the bait. With the warmer temps we are seeing a lot more mullet and finding the bait has been key.

Start your mornings out with search baits (top-waters, sub-surface lures, and larger swim-baits) which usually do well in low light conditions. If you find an area where you’re getting lots of strikes or even catching a fish or two then I like to change to a gulp jerk-shad or three inch shrimp, it typically will get you a little faster action. For the guys that don’t mind throwing out bait, small chunks of mullet and ladyfish have been getting good action as well. Place these chunks on a 3/0 to 4/0 circle hook and toss it along the edges of the bait and hold on! Both these techniques will produce good numbers of trout and redfish. I highly encourage everyone to catch and release in the river for future generations.
