canaveral nearshore cobia

In the lagoon and local canals around Satellite Beach, the seatrout bite has been pretty good; with Spring setting in, it’s poised to get even better. There are some decent size black drum and sheepshead being caught in the area, as well. On the nearby beaches, surf fishing hasn’t been great, but the beach is definitely fish-able. We’re catching mostly margates and whiting, but there’s still an occasional pompano and bluefish in the mix. If it’s pompano you’re looking for, you will probably have better luck jigging for them in the lagoon. If not evident already from the other reports, the talk of the town is the nearshore cobia bite. There’s reportedly a load of rays gliding through the waters just off the beach. If you find them, you’ll likely get into some cobia, too.
