lake Garcia bass fishing

Lake Garcia is one of, if not my favorite, lake to fish, period. It has it all in what a Florida lake has to offer. It is really an impoundment watershed for Fellsmere Farms to be able to draw water out of when needed for their crops. The lake covers approximately 3000 acres with Lilly Pads, Bullrush and plenty of Hydrilla. With a dark tannic water the area has an average of 3-4 feet of depth. So it becomes an intimidating body of water for any newcomer that wants to experience it’s hidden pleasures.

If you Google Earth the area you will notice an oval area of water. This at one time was a old horse race track. With the lower waters in it, caution needs to be considered. It took me five years fishing with the friend that showed me this place before I was brave enough to go on my own, but that has changed since the Golden Years. Now there are three ways to get out to the lake.

Early mornings, I will start out throwing my favorite Yo Zuri topwater lure using it as a search bait. As the sun gets higher, I will change over to a soft plastic style of Swim Bait. Gamblers Burner Worm or EZ Swimmer rigged Texas Style will do the job. When the sun is brighter, I change over to a Copperfield color.

On cloudy days, I’ll throw June bug, black/blue or my new favorite color Gold Rush in either of these two baits. With so much vegetarian, I prefer using 20# test YoZuri Super Braid line. Finding clean water and hard bottom is a key factor for a good day of fishing. My next report I will focus on the Stickmarsh. We’re starting to finally getting some rains this week and our water levels will slowly start to come up. Until then, I hope everyone has an EASY DAYS Fishing adventure.
