Things are finally starting to cool down here on the Space Coast, but the fishing is heating up! This time of the year can be a bit challenging at times with cold fronts coming and going. The constant change in wind direction and water temp can really throw a curve ball to a pattern you might have just figured out.

With the first few fronts, the trout, redfish and snook bite has only gotten better. The finger mullet are still showing up in full force and the predators are right behind them. Topwater plugs and free-lined live mullet early have been getting the job done! As the sun starts to rise, switching to soft plastic jigs such as the Mirrolure Lil John and Gulp shrimp are having great success. Another great technique is an 1/8oz jig-head with a dead shrimp — I prefer to pop the head off the shrimp and thread it on the jig-head. Slowly bouncing this off the bottom can produce everything under the sun. The cooler the weather we get the less snook and tarpon we will see, and most fish will feed more on shrimp and less on bait-fish. I’m looking forward to the next few weeks to come with some cooler weather and some great fishing!
