Capt. Jim Ross has been catching some MONSTER fish off the beach this week!

My son, Captain Justin Ross, and I have been putting our clients on some monster fish this week. The bite along our beaches of Central Florida is heating up with giant Crevalle and big tarpon following schools of baitfish along the coast between Sebastian Inlet and Port Canaveral.

We are catching the jacks on live baits and large topwater plugs like the Rapala C-Rap shallow 12 and the Williamson surface pro popper. The tarpon have all been hitting live menhaden or croakers that we are rigging on VMC 7385 circle hooks. The preferred sizes for these tarpon are the 7/0 and 8/0 models that we are tying to 80 lb Sufix Fluorocarbon leader. I am using my Memory Stix 7’7″ spinning rods rated for 20-40 lb test to cast to most of the jacks and a 7′ medium heavy action conventional rod loaded with 30 lb mono when drifting or slow trolling with live baits. Give us a call and we’ll go catch your next Memory!
