Mangrove snapper are active nearshore along with beach!

Beach fishing has been pretty good the last week! The snook are in the surf from Satellite beach down to Vero Beach feeding on bait schools cruising the trough. Live pigfish have been good baits but the fish have also been eating thread fins and pinfish rigged on 40lb leader and a 6/0 VMC 7385 circle hook!

Schools of tarpon are migrating north at a fast pace looking for schools of bait. If you can find the schools, you should be able to find fish that are willing to eat. Cruising fish are much harder to get hooked up on. I like to use live Threadfin Herring rigged on a VMC 7385 circle hook slow trolled behind the boat. While slow trolling I like to have my anglers throwing a live bait or a Hogy Eel at fish they can see. A few days this week, we jumped tarpon that ate the artificial baits over the live baits.

King mackerel and Snapper are along the reefs close to shore. Mutton snapper, lane snapper and yellowtail snapper have been plentiful. King Mackerel have been feeding in the bait schools along the reefs as well. Live sardines, clam and pilchards are great bait for the Snapper and live Threadfins have been working well on the Kingfish and spanish Mackerel. Keep your eyes open and you might run into a sailfish or two as well.
