Happy New Year! Fishing has been good this past week despite the warmer temperatures and should get much better this week with the cooler temperatures and the departure of the full moon. Look for clean water and schooling reds in the flats and target them using either a naked hook with a large shrimp, a jig-head with a Z Man paddle tail or live finger mullet. The trout are staging on deeper drop offs and can be caught using paddle tails or naked hooks with shrimp, as well. Look for black drum to start schooling up along the sandbars, oyster bars and docks. A jig-head with a peeled shrimp will usually get the job done for the black drum.
