beach tarpon fishing

All up and down the coast everyone is getting geared up and ready for red snapper season, while most are running out, I’ll be running the beach! From north to south, the surf has been hot. Just find the bait and you’ll find the fish — it’s that simple!

Schools of pogies and glass minnows have been working up and down the entire coast with a plethora of species following. From the silver king, kingfish, and snook to Jacks and bonito, you never really know what might show this time of year! Anglers looking for good action can try slow trolling pogies or greenies in 30 feet of water. If live bait is tough to come by, or maybe you just want to use artificial, you can find good action trolling large lipped plugs like the Rapala X Rap. If you happen upon entire schools of migrating tarpon, or large glass minnow pods boiling along the beach, Gulp jerkshads and Hogy swimbaits really get the job done!

Good luck to everyone fishing this weekend, and with all the added boat pressure, try to keep a better eye on your surroundings!
