Tried to see if I could hit a slot size snook on the last day. Woke up super pumped and ready to get into the action. Rods rigged, baits assorted, this is going to be good. Hop in the truck and start to leave only to realize the trailer lights are not working. 45 minutes later, and several disconnects and reconnects, were on the road. Hit the south end of Sebastian near Mud hole. First cast with the spook top water and my bottom eyelit pops from my penn fierce rod. Braid knots as well. Down one rig. Next cast and it’s on, 18 in red. Excellent. Cast back to the origin cast, boom, 22in red excellent. As the sun is coming up I can see they are feasting on the bait that is everywhere. We work the mangrove lines south for 2 hours with no hits. Nothing. I finally decide to head back to where we started. Change up to the DOA paddletail in white, with a red jig head. First cast, Snook on! Shorty at 22. Next cast, 18in. Ok we have the right species, but damn is it raging hot out. We fished for another 2 hours and caught several snook in the 12-24 size range, but we could not find our slot. Had I not lost the 45 mn in the morning, who knows, but once that sun goes up all living things will run for cover.

If your looking for reds…top water till the sunglasses come on, cut bait in a decent size pretty much whenever, target pitch shrimp on schools, and have fun! Wear sunscreen and be safe.

I’m trying to post pics but I believe the live pics on the iPhone are a problem. Promise to load next time
