Space coast fishing

The Space Coast has a lot going on! This week has been great fishing, from redfish and black drum in the river to snook along the beach, the bite has been pretty good!

In the river, the summer pattern continues early mornings throwing top water and small hard bait lures like the Mirrolure Mirrodine still prove to be the best bet for redfish and even some juvenile tarpon. Once the sun starts to rise it’s time to put down the plugs and switch to soft plastics or bait from gulp shrimp on an 1/8 oz. jighead to cut or live finger mullet fished free-lined on a 4/0 circle hook.

As for the beach, we’re finally seeing a bit more bait, anything from pogies and pilchards to larger baits like croakers and silver mullet all are producing good numbers of snook. I like to rig these baits on a 6/0 circle hook thru the nose and no weight, a stout rod, 30lb braid and a 50lb fluorocarbon leader. Most fish can be found along the beach in any drop off and almost every inlet. As usual, everyone try to do their part, catch and release in the river. A can of bug spray and sunscreen isn’t a terrible idea either!
