red fish mosquito lagoon

The weather has been abnormally warmer than usual for this time of year throughout the Central Florida area. With the warmer weather comes warmer water temperatures, which have made for some more active fish cruising the flats and bars looking for a easy meal. The redfish, black drum, snook, trout and mangrove snapper have all been chewing well. Look for the mangroves and snook holding around structure and shorelines as the drum, redfish and trout will be found on the lagoon flats.

Artificials have been working but live bait has been the way to go lately. Anything from live shrimp, finger mullet and pin fish for the snook, mangroves and trout. The redfish and black drum have been preferring the crab and shrimp for the most part.

Water clarity has been good throughout the Mosquito Lagoon, making for fun sight fishing when the wind wants to cooperate.

With the holidays in sight this next week and the weather looking warm and nice I foresee a lot of traffic on the water.

Happy Holidays and a New Year!
