The nearshore fishing north of Port Canaveral has been great. A lot of bluefish, jacks, and a few big spinner sharks. We also caught two keeper trout in the Bight! For bluefish and jacks, live finger mullet has been a good choice when the fish aren’t abundant. When the fish become abundant, spoons and plugs can be highly effective if you work them fast. Use a short piece of light wire to avoid being cut off. You may also find spanish mackerel or ladyfish doing these methods.
For sharks, a large fresh chunk is the best bait. I use a heavy Terez rod and a Saragosa 10000 with 50 lb powerpro.
In the Indian River Lagoon, there have been a few black drum in the 10 pound range feeding on the flats. Most crustaceans make good baits. These fish can be very hard to get on artificial.
