Went to the Sebastian River today. Never really been and decided to hit it thinking the wind might be more than I want to take on my Gheenoe. First cast of the cast net at the ramp and I had 14 finger mullet around 5 inches. Started with top water and would get popped. Nothing and I mean nothing was actually taking the lure. It was like the we’re playing soccer with them. Switched to live and had chances, but either pulled the bait too soon, hard, both or I don’t even know. Set up on three fish and fought them for a second before getting spit. Lost some baits to oyster beds. Having never been there I didn’t expect there to be beds everywhere. Wish I had shrimp as sheep’s and drum were abundant.

As I got closer to the mouth, the blowups got bigger, and the live bait got less. Hit jacks on topwater, then switched to DOA paddle in glow and the dark and hit a 18.5 snook. Few cast later a mangrove snapper, then the jacks came in and destroyed everything. Lots of tarpon rolling but I couldn’t get a taker. Last few trips I’ve have been hitting snook and reds, but nothing of decent size. I also have not been getting virtually any trout. Normally I’m so uninterested in catching them, they are almost an annoyance. Last three trips I think I’ve got maybe three keeper size ones and no shorts. I’m running out of excuses now that I fished a new spot, so something better give.
