key west grouper

Another week of great weather down south. As we move into April the fishing is just getting hotter.

Offshore there have been spotty reports of dolphin. One day is great with gaffers and a couple in the upper 30’s and the next is a long boat ride. So we’re real close for that to turn on!! Sailfish on the edge of the reef have been giving it up this week. Net some ballyhoo while your snapper fishing then set out a drift and open a sandwich. Not a bad way to finish off your day.

Speaking of the reef, it’s been on fire! We still have to let grouper go for one more month. When that fishery opens May 1 it’s going to be great!! Yellowtail has been awesome 18-20 inch fish and lots of them. I’ve been hitting my limit almost every day. A few kings around and lots of sharks so playing keep away is a thing to get your fish 🙂

The back country is lighting up with pockets of tarpon and channels of permit. We’re still waiting on the really big schools to show up. Well I’m late for work, off to the end of the bar today looking for yellowtail and kingfish.
