inshore tarpon fishing

Pick your species! The summer time pattern is still in full swing and right now has been giving us some excellent fishing! The flats have really been on fire with excellent numbers of redfish, larger seatrout, tarpon, and the beaches have been producing nice snook! Getting up early or fishing late in the evening has been best.

We are starting to see more and more mullet and this has been the key indicator on where the fish are going to be. It’s simple — find the bait, and the fish will follow.

I had a few repeat customers this week and the pictures are just a few reasons why. We started out throwing top water early in the morning until the sun just started to breach, then it was gulp shrimp, or cut mullet for the bait of choice. We really had no trouble getting bites with either one, it really all depends on what the angler prefers.

Good Snook fishing

Even though you can’t keep em, the snook bite remains hot and these fish are always a lot of fun.

Snook fishing has been pretty good along the beach as well. We’re finally starting to see some pogies and even some larger mullet which are going to be a few of the top baits in the surf for these big linesiders. When snook fishing, tides play a big role in the bite. A strong incoming or outgoing tide with these large full moons have been pretty good. Fish any of the jetty’s from Sebastian to Cape Canaveral, and the troughs along the beach in between. Snook are out of season until September 1st, but still put up a great battle!

As for the river, we’re still practicing catch and release, which I highly encourage everyone to do, especially with the trout spawning on these full moons!
