Last week, I fished one day on each of my home waters. Monday was on the Lagoon. Nothing fantastic to report on our day of saltwater fishing. Small jacks, a few silver trout and a little snook to brag about.

The second day was by far the best day for a bite which was on 3 Forks. We stood in the parking lot as the sun was trying to peek through rain clouds over the beach pondering if we should go out or not. We managed to talk ourselves into going and take what repercussions that might happen to us. Well, 30 minutes in, we realized that the noise we were hearing wasn’t just winds in the trees but a sheer wall of rain coming fast towards us. We already hadn’t yet met our catch quota, so the decision to stay wasn’t hard to make and we chose to ride it out. It was over as fast as it came and we were graced with overcast skies and a double rainbow to fish under.

We proceeded to have one of the funnest days in a long time. I think we were fishing in the Pot of Gold the rainbow gave us. After 4 hours of fishing, we caught 83 fish, all between bass, bluegill and crappie. We were like little kids once again with high fives and laughter.

My third day was spent on the Stick Marsh. After last week’s closures for parking lot repairs, which I have to say looks nice, we headed for the Farm side of the impoundment. The topwater bite was incredible for the first hour and both of us had our hearts broken by losing big fish at the boatside. Once the sun was up we changed to lipless crankbaits throwing to schooling fish. This week they are closing Garcia to repair its parking area.
