IRL redfish

Rough seas have kept us from venturing out to look for cobia this week, but I’m still finding giant redfish in the Indian River Lagoon for my charter clients. All of the reds we have landed this past week have been over the 40-inch mark. Trophy fish like these have to be handled with great care, so we cradle them in our arms like you would your own child. This is to keep them from hanging vertically, which is extremely hard on their internal organs, and can kill these gorgeous fish if the utmost care isn’t taken when handling them.

Live shrimp have still been the best way to get them to strike. My anglers have also been landing black drum in the 15 to 40-pound range. Overall, this past week the fishing has been much slower than I would have liked but we’ve still managed some high quality fish that my clients will never forget.
