mangrove snapper Sebastian

Had a pretty decent week fishing nearshore and a little offshore around Sebastian Inlet and Vero Beach. The Threadfins are showing up thick and the Bonito, Jacks and Kingfish are following the schools of bait looking for an easy meal. Plenty of action from them if you’re willing to take the ride and find the bait schools. Sharpnose sharks are around the bait schools and under all along the nearshore and inshore reefs as well and will provide some good action, especially for the younger anglers. We got into some nice Mangrove Snapper and Red Grouper last week on the offshore reefs. As we move into the summer months, they will be great targets for offshore anglers looking to fill the cooler.

The inshore bite has been tough since the full moon last week. Along with the full moon, we had the front late last week and the wind muddied up the water from Palm Bay to Sebastian and south to Wabasso. There was some decent fishing for Trout and plenty of jacks and ladyfish, but the dirty water made for a tough bite on artificial. The creeks from Melbourne to Sebastian have had a lot of mullet as well as Jacks, Sharks, Tarpon and a few snook. Live bait is the key to getting some good fish in the creeks.

For the week ahead, check out the creeks from Melbourne to Sebastian. The tarpon and snook will be active early and later in the morning, the jacks will be target species. The beaches from Melbourne to Vero Beach will have bait pods with Kingfish, Jacks, Bonito, Bluefish and Spanish Mackerel. Running and gunning will be the best way to find and stay on the fish.
