There’s been an increased amount of slot size redfish in the mangroves in the Indian River Lagoon during the morning and evening, despite murky water. Numbers of tarpon and black drum have decreased, but there are still some around. I caught the fish in the North Merritt Island area on live pinfish because it’s been very hard to find live bait. If you get live finger mullet, you have a better chance. I use 20 lb flouro but if you start getting broke off, you might be hooking snook. I advise against keeping these reds because of high mercury levels and population concerns.

Fishing near Merritt Island, I caught and released a few redfish using live mud minnows from Chum It Up Live Bait And Tackle.
