We headed out to Melbourne Beach before sun up today, the waves were calm as the tide went out. Saw lots of pelicans diving along the beach about thirty yards out chasing the bait pods we saw. We set two poles out with sand fleas and I was tossing a plug and a jig head. We caught a small Croaker so I put him on one pole and tossed him back out , didn’t get any interest with him though. I hooked a small mullet about 6” with one pole so I replaced the Croaker (who croaked) with this nice lively mullet and threw him in the first trough and lightened up the drag and waited while on the other poles. About twenty minutes later the drag is screaming and when I got the pole a few seconds later it’s already about 75 yards out! FISH ON !
Tightened up the drag some and out about 100 yards now and dancing on the top, finally got it to turn towards shore and gain some line. Turns out that it’s a really good snook, maybe 15lbs and 24-30” ??? Got it up to the beach and some video and when I am ready to grab it the line cuts!
SOB ! Oh well it was fun while it lasted.
There were lots of bait fish and the weeds weren’t to bad except right next to shore.
