surf fishing redfish

Linda caught this beautiful redfish in the Satellite Beach surf on Saturday!

If you based your weekend off what you saw on the news, you might have planned to do something other than fishing. If so, big mistake! The rain and thunderstorms forecasted for this weekend never really materialized on the Space Coast. Similarly to our benefit, westerly wind on Friday took care of the red tide problem on the beach. Meanwhile, the fishing was great!

We hit up Satellite Beach for some surf fishing on Saturday morning hoping to fill a cooler with some pompano. Although we didn’t see any pomps, we still loaded up the cooler during a great outing on the beach. The day was highlighted by a few beautiful slot redfish, but we also caught some really nice sized black drum, whiting, and croakers. It made for a great fish fry later that night.

The beach was loaded with sand fleas. We used a combination of the fleas we caught, Fishbites, and live shrimp, doing pretty well with all of them. There was also a good amount of finger mullet schooling. We netted some and tried them on a couple of lines, but didn’t get any takers.
