Slime seems to be everywhere from Satellite down to north of Sebastian. Tough fishing all around. Did find some minor breaks at Satellite today. Had a variety of undersized black drum, a permit, a margate, and some lady fish.

Thats awesome that you got a Permit! Where in Satellite did you get him?
I was near crotty park. I have a few areas within a couple hundred yards both north and south of the access I like. My son also caught a palm sized permit in the surf north of the Sebastian pier last weekend as well. Mine was just under 10.”
Thanks man! I didnt even know Permit were up here. Will definitely have to go find them!
Hi I am new to the area and surf fish every chance I get. I fished off Satellite Beach a few times, but I always get snagged in the rocks. Are there any spots south of Patrick Airforce Base that are relatively rock free? Thanks
Hey, Gsurat. Welcome to the area and the website! If you fish at low tide, it’s easy to see the spots to avoid — where rock is clearly exposed on the surface. But otherwise, don’t be afraid to fish on and around the reef. I prefer it to the sandy bottom beaches because there always seems to be a greater diversity of species. Snags may happen from time to time, but the key to avoiding them is in the retrieval. When you’re reeling in, be sure to keep your rod tip pointed up and to reel at a nice, consistent speed. This will keep your line off the rocky bottom as you reel in to shore. Just don’t stop reeling. As long as you keep your retrieval steady as your tackle passes over the rocks, it won’t sink enough to get snagged.
