This past week has been a hectic one for us here at Fineline Fishing Charters. Between getting anglers out for fishing charters and running back and forth between the coast and Orlando for three days to attend ICAST, captain Justin and I have been busy.

We’ve been doing a lot of testing of new lures, and even some prototype lures with the head brass from Rapala Lure Company. They brought a variety of new hard lures over from Finland for us to try on some of our near-coastal species. Most of these were heavily weighted sinking plugs or walk-the-dog and popper style topwater lures. We were able to catch a variety of species including king mackerel, jack crevalle, barracuda and bonito.

The Rapala Xpolde, Walk-N-Roll and, what at the time of this being published is being called, the “Heavy Cast” are three new offerings for heavy duty game fish action. What I really like about these lures is they add a new dimension to your ocean fishing game. You can anchor over structure and use any of these in conjunction with bottom fishing. Alternatively, an angler can cast and work any of these lures from the bow of the boat while you are slow trolling with live baits, effectively increasing your opportunity to hook fish by covering more water.

The red snapper days were a fiasco, as you can imagine if you did not participate, but the bite was good and the fillets will be even better! Until next week, do what we are planning to do, get out there and catch yourself a memory!
