bluegill stick marsh

My couple of days on the water was a mission for me with the fly rod. Bluegill were high on the list but I knew I would find some bass in the mix, too.

Getting on the water at 6am is a must this time of year; by 9:00 AM, the bite slows down considerably, especially when there’s very little cloud cover. My days have been ending by 10:30 AM, once it gets to be what I call “Africa Hot.”

hand tied flies

I was starting out the mornings throwing my favorite fly, and as with all my other flies used, were hand tied by myself. My little Stealth Bomber was getting crushed in the early morning so much that it started to fall apart, so I switched it up to a small Double Barreled popper and the bite continued until about 9:00 AM. I tied up a new pattern that I came across a while back and caught bass on it, so this one will be in my box for future trips.
