The topwater bite has been really good for us this week. Spook style baits (Shad color or light color bellies) fished over and around hydrilla has produced some good fish. We also stuck a few early in the morning on black walking frogs. Another great bait to fish around grass is the baby torpedo. I was fortunate enough to catch a couple fish in the 7-8lb range this week on that bait. Work it slow but my “popping” it was a little aggressive a few times on the retrieve.
Bass Assassin Vapor Shads in Houdini or Watermelon Red fished weightless has been a great way to catch fish all day long.
If you saw my post earlier, the shiner bite was phenomenal. We focused on reed edges and sharp drop offs. Lots of quality fish! If you find the right spots you will use about two dozen shiners an hour with two rods.
