Strong winds, cold, and rain kept me off the flats this week. There were some small reds and trout in deeper water out of the wind. Very light tackle and small live shrimp was productive.

Thanks for the report Kurt!
thanks for the report. Im new to the spacecoast and I live up by Viera. I have a kayak. I was looking for a place to fish that is protected from the wind. I don’t mind traveling. thanks
It depends a good bit on wind direction. The further that wind travels over water unobstructed, the rougher it will be. Try and put your kayak in on the side of land from which the wind is blowing and avoid open water. The various canal systems generally provide decent wind coverage.
If its an east or west wind you can put in over the bridge on Pineda just before the smaller bridge. There is a primitive ramp where you can launch and head east towards the big sport fishing boat that is docked there. You can fish along all those canals back there and get a bunch of trout with a few keepers thrown in. Popping corks work well with shrimp and root beer jigs…good luck
Awesome advice, thanks for sharing!
