Trout season is in full effect on the Space Coast! This week the trout bite has definitely picked up. Anglers can find sea trout throughout the entire region in good numbers. Most fish can be found around docks and mangrove shorelines, spoil islands, and even bridge fenders at night. Spring is notorious for a good trout bite.
My favorite way to target these fish is throwing plastics, larger swim baits, big topwater plugs and jerk-shads. These are all good choices, especially early morning. For those looking for a larger trophy sea trout, try fishing shallow edges near deep holes and outside edges of spoil islands with large live baits such as mullet, pigfish, and pinfish. A free lined live bait works wonders on gator trout!
I highly encourage everyone to catch and release no matter the regulations for future generations.
