Pompano MelbourneBeach

It was a cool 57° as the sun peeked above the horizon at a public beach access in south Melbourne Beach. A wide variety of species showed up today with pompano, whiting, palometra, croakers, bluefish, bonnethead, and so many catfish that you would have thought I was baiting with meow-mix! I was sharked a couple times and had enough cats to call it a day before I could finish my limit on pompano. Sand fleas were nonexistent on the incoming tide, but they showed up in abundance after the high tide. I gathered about a gallon in quick order that should last me most of the week. The surf was fairly calm, but the water is still a little dirty. There was no problem holding bottom with 3-4 oz pyramids.
