This week I fished the flats and canals. The Banana River had tons of trophy trout along with nice redfish scattered around and a few under slot snook. The water is so clear that it is hard to get the fish to take your bait. The Indian River had a lot of slot and over slot snook, all sizes of redfish, and juvenile tarpon under docks. All these fish are really spooky but if you are very quiet, it is possible to get them to eat. The trout ate readily but everything else was picky. Finger mullet remain good bait and shrimp are always a safe choice in the canals. I have seen a lot of alligators and small sharks recently which is cool but scary. Attached is a photo of a nice 24 inch trout.
