The hot bite this week in the surf has been whiting and croakers. We’ve also been seeing some smaller bluefish in the mix, in addition to some keeper pompano that have moved out of the river and back to the beach.
For the whiting, croakers and pompano, the bait of choice has been fresh dead shrimp, live sand fleas and fresh clams. A double drop rig with either a small orange float or pearl colored beads has been working well for me.
For the bluefish and jacks, fresh cut bait is “go to” bait. Deploy these cut baits with a standard fish finder rig and you will be in business!
