Wicked Weeds

AJ

This week was another terrible week of weeds nearshore and offshore. Sargassum was in full bloom, making it nearly impossible to troll for anything from the beach to 500 feet. If you’re willing to fight the weeds, kings are plentiful on the reef right now. But, that’s a big IF — the weeds have been so bad, they’ve even made trouble for shark fishing — it’s pretty ridiculous. Bottom fishing was pretty darn good, though. Grouper and AJ were Fired Up. The red snapper made it difficult to reach them, though. Unless you had a 15 inch bait, all you were catching were red snappers, which was also ridiculous, but fun, nonetheless.

People are catching Mahi, and they are out there in full swing — however, you may still need to motor out +100 miles to find them. Otherwise, it’s been pretty slim pickings for us sticking closer to the coast.

We had a great cobia run this year. The window has closed on all of the action, but there are still some stragglers out there.

Hope you have a good week!
