fort pierce fishing

Larry caught quite a few toothy critters on this outlandishly colored Mirrodine.

I don’t know who turned the switch to the off position on the wind machine, but I’d like to thank you! I was beginning to think I’d never see calm water again.

The wind died off in time for a Tuesday morning trip with my best client; Tony. Unfortunately, life events got in the way and we had to reschedule the trip.

Wednesday I was joined by Mr. Larry and we fished the west shorelines between the North Bridge and Parks Cove. Not much happening as we hopped, skipped and jumped our way northward. Things changed once I decided to abandon the shallow shorelines and concentrate our efforts on nearby spoil islands.

I was surprised by the lack of shoreline action. The water level was very low as the tide bottomed out and the presence of baitfish was virtually non-existent. The lack of food typically means a lack of predators. My surprise was not the lack of feeding fish; it was the lack of fry minnows this area has been holding.

If there was baitfish holding on the spoil islands they were holding deep in the water column. We saw no surface activity and experienced little action on Larry’s Chug Bug. I however, was having my way with redfish, trout and jacks as they greedily banged my Z-Man Curly Tailz. Eventually the topwater plug was replaced and we both caught fish using various sub-surface lures.

BTW, if this weather holds for another few days I expect the snook activity to explode here. I’ll be trying out my new to me bay boat very soon and drifting the inlet for linesiders!
