A CENTRAL FLORIDA FISHING FORECAST EVERY TUESDAY
The annual “Minnow Swarm” is making for some great fishing on the St. John’s River right now.
High winds are forecasted this week and can be expected to limit fishing opportunities tied to the Atlantic. Fortunately, it’s an awesome time to wet a line in some freshwater; specifically, in the St Johns River, where bass, bream, crappie, and other species are feasting on minnows freshly flushed into the river’s main channels. This is an annual phenomenon that Paul MacInnis dubbed the “St Johns Minnow Swarm,” which he discusses in detail in this week’s featured article.
IN THIS WEEK’S FORECAST…
SPACE B.O.I. FORECAST
- black drum
WEATHER OVERVIEW: It appears our next cool front is on the way. It should start to push in this evening as our SE winds switch to NNW bringing with it rain, wind and a drop in temperature. Overall, this week is not looking very good in terms of wind and increased chances for rain. As we move into the weekend, the wind shifts out of the east before switching back NNW on Sunday bringing cooler temps again.
Offshore is pretty much off the table this week. However, for the anglers that took advantage of the short window this past Sunday to go offshore, it paid off with good catches. If the current weather forecasts hold, next week looks pretty good; so if you are primarily an offshore person, now is a good time to get all your stuff tight and right for next week. For everyone else, the lagoons, lakes and St. Johns are probably your best bet. The surf has been good, but the increased wind could make for challenging fishing conditions.
