We live in Melbourne and love the space coast! I love fishing the backwaters of this area. After that bitter arctic blast around Christmas, and tough fishing conditions in between then and New Years Day, it was really nice to have a few warm days to start 2023 off with some fun and exciting days on the water. I was able to get out on January 4th and again on the 8th. I fished inshore on the Indian River Lagoon and Crane Creek on the 4th and went down to the Stick Marsh on Sunday.
I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas, and Happy New Years! Our family had a wonderful Christmas, our two young boys had a great time, which was just magical for my wife and I to see.
I hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday season – and Merry Christmas. My family went to Georgia to spend the week with family for our Thanksgiving break. I took the opportunity to fish two places I have never fished before.
It’s Christmas time folks! So why not go on down to the most notorious tree farm in the area? Make sure you find them in moving water, you may just find presents under these trees! […]
Over the weekend I went out and fished the closest “lake” to my house, Lake Washington – which is actually not a lake at all, it is a really wide and long section of the St. John’s River. I feel kind of bad for not fishing here, especially after driving down and fishing Headwaters and the Stick Marsh several times over the summer, but I went out this weekend, explored, caught some Bass – so here we go!
I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving holiday, my family went to Georgia to spend the week with family for our Thanksgiving break. I took the opportunity to fish two places I have never fished before. I fished one on the way up, and one on the way back. This is the season where people may find themselves traveling up and down I-95, so I wanted to share two places that are within a few miles of the interstate, but have an off the beaten path feel and experience to them.
I try to be mindful and understanding of fish movements throughout the year. For the big 3 (Snook, Trout, Redfish) of inshore fishing on the Space Coast here is my general rule of thumb – Spring and Fall are transition periods between Summer and Winter spots. If you are an expert or upper echelon angler, this is not for you, because you already probably know this.
Turkey Creek – I feel bad, like I have neglected you these last 3 years. I love kayak fishing the Eau Gallie River, and Crane Creek and over the last few years of living here have put in my time on both. I went out to Turkey Creek in August but had a horrible day – I spent more time ducking thunder storms than fishing.
This past weekend I had a chance to get out a go fishing on Saturday and Sunday mornings. I launched out of Long Point Park Saturday and had a good trip, and went out to Headwaters on Sunday, my first time fishing there since June. So I wanted to give a bit of info about both trips, and both launch spots.
I caught this on my last inshore trip on the 4th. It was in the shallows off the mangroves close to the radio tower in Downtown Melbourne.
I caught this on my last inshore trip back on the 4th. The warmer weather led to a much better bite.
My 2nd Biggest Bass from The Stick Marsh this weekend. Like any good Christmas gift, I found him tightly nestled under a tree.
Is it too early for a Christmas carol? The sunshine shows, this Silver King's bling; use light tackle, and hear your drag scream; they'll jump and they'll play; your leader may fray, Pine Island Conservation […]
In my report this week I mentioned how fish can get that dyed Easter egg look from tannic stained water. This is one of the first few Snook I caught this weekend in a fun […]
The area of the Indian River Lagoon around Honest John's Fish Camp has always been a reliable place to catch healthy Trout in good numbers, that was no exception this past weekend. This Trout pictured […]
My best Snook from this past Saturday fishing the Mangrove Islands of Mullet Creek, located on the Indian River Lagoon just south of Honest John's Fish Camp.
My largest Snook landed this past weekend. He was just below the slot range. A fun catch on light tackle caught under the mangroves close to the water treatment plant, where the creek forks around […]
Not a monster by any means, but it is probably the biggest Red I've caught while creek fishing for Snook and Tarpon. This was just west of the railroad tracks on Crane Creek. He was […]
The recent rains have seemed to really have the Juvi Tarpon on the Eau Gallie River fired up. If this is a fish you want to target and catch get out there while the bite […]
