redfish Cooper

Cooper with a nice redfish caught bouncing around paddle tails on a cool windy morning!

For the first time in a long time it seems the Space Coast might actually experience a real winter! Water temps have been plummeting along with the air. Unfortunately, the water still seems to be struggling with the recent algae blooms, but the fishing remains pretty good.

This week, fishing troughs definitely has been the ticket. Anglers can find redfish, trout, and black drum all holding in these deeper pockets looking for warmth. Areas that have a really muddy and silty bottom have been best. Artificial baits worked very slow along the bottom such as Gulp and DOA paddle tails have been getting good numbers. A dead shrimp on a popping cork has been producing, too. The key has been to be very slow and efficient — once you get a bite, try to stick it out in that area because there is sure to be more!

Fingers crossed the algae will start to die off, and the fish will stay on this same pattern with the even cooler weather approaching.
