surf fishing report

Weeds have been a slight problem in the surf these past few days, however, if you are able to find a spot without them or where they are light, you will be greeted with an outstanding bite. Up north, the entire area of Volusia County beaches have been producing great catches of big bull whiting, some nice keeper pompano and large schools of bluefish running the coastline. And with the great cooler weather moving in this week, that should really get the pompano on the move south out of the Jacksonville/St Augustine area and stacked up and feeding.

pompano

The hot bait has been crab flavor fish bites, clam fish bites and live sandfleas fished on a pompano rig with either a red bead or purple pearl beads. The larger pompano and whiting have been out past the first sandbar; however, the best thing to do is run multiple rods and have them fanned out to find the area the fish want to sit for that day.
