black drum

It’s been a crazy November here on the Space Coast. Hurricanes, cold fronts, and even summer type hot days… Even with all the crazy abnormal weather things are slowly getting into a routine, black drum are gathering in good numbers, bull reds are still present but spreading out. The trout bite has been slower than normal, and there is still a few snook to be caught, it’s definitely been challenging having to adapt to different conditions week by week, but the next few weeks to come will become more consistent and a normal pattern will fall into place.

This time of year I really focus on inshore fishing, with almost always having a windy day fishing troughs and sloughs will almost always produce good numbers of fish even on the nastiest of conditions, areas like Mosquito Lagoon that have shorelines with deeper depressions along the bank are the best areas to target. Pick a wind blown point with the wind at your back and slowly bump along tossing soft plastics like gulp shrimp or d.o.a artificial baits is a great way to get a good bite going. Other baits such as popping corks with shrimp, and a dead shrimp on a jighead worked slow along the bottom will produce as well. Typically these areas will hold good numbers of redfish, trout, and black drum in the 20-30 inch range with the occasional bull redfish or large drum. Look for larger fish in schools on shallow sandy flats on those high sun flat calm days.
