summer tarpon fishing

Kevin caught his personal Best!

Jesse and I have been putting in the time fishing the beach for Tarpon, Jacks, Mackerel and Kingfish. Despite the crowds and lack of etiquette from other anglers that continue to run over lines and cut people off with no regard, we still are putting quite a few fish in the air and in the boat. Live bait has worked well but we are also getting decent numbers of Tarpon, Kingfish, Jacks, sharks and Spanish Mackerel on soft plastics.

Ty from Texas put a whooping on a couple tarpon!

This week should be a bit slower with boats on the water with the end of the holiday, but the weather will still be nice. Look for bait pods on the beach from Port Canaveral to Sebastian Inlet and fish the bait pods. If you are looking for Kingfish to eat, fish the deeper bait pods with live greenies and you should do pretty well.

Anglers this week should start targeting Red Snapper with the limited window for harvesting opening up. There’s plenty of fish off the reefs that are biting on live bait or jigs in 80-120’ depths. Just use some etiquette and don’t pull up on boats that are already fishing.
