amberjack offshore

Amberjack were among several species that made for an active bottom bite this week.

It was a great past week out of Port Canaveral! We were gifted with zero wind, flat calm and glassy conditions — and the fishing was awesome, too. Fortunately, the excellent weather projects to continue this week.

Trolling the typical areas has been productive. The kingfish bite has been active, but we’ve also had a mix of dolphin, cobia, and sailfish chewing, too. The bottom fishing has also been producing a lot of rod-bending action with plenty of red snapper, amberjacks, and grouper.

Unfortunately, live bait has not been easy to come by. It’s out there, and can definitely be found, but it can be a struggle. If you can spare the time, do what you can to find it because live bait can make or break your fishing trip. For whatever reason, the fish don’t seem to be eager for the minnows right now, so try and stick to bunkers if you can.
